Conduct Becoming

Conduct Becoming is a student created and driven organization that raises money for Canadian cancer research. Also known as Conduct Becoming: Mount Allison Voices Against Cancer, Conduct Becoming: Voices Against Cancer and Conduct Becoming: Canadian Voices Against Cancer.

Conduct Becoming was founded by Mount Allison University students Drew Dudley, Marc Carnes and Jonathan Clark as a way of remembering a fellow student Jason Abraham. All four students worked at the campus pub, the Tantramarsh Club. Conduct Becoming has grown to become an annual project on the campus of Mount Allison University.

In March 2001 the Conduct Becoming: Voices Against Cancer organization, consisting entirely of volunteers, released their first professional quality album on the campus of Mount Allison University in Sackville, New Brunswick. The album was intended to be a way of showcasing the quality and diversity of the Mount Allison student music scene. The CD featured pop, hard and soft rock, folk, blues, alternative, swing, celtic and much more. All of the tracks were entirely original and written and performed by student musicians. The album was a critical and financial success on campus and developed a fan base of university students interested in purchasing more top quality tracks from their peers.

The organization has now released an album every year since 2001 on the Mount Allison University campus. The albums are sold locally, by mail order, and the conduct becoming online store as well as Amazon.ca.

In 2004 the project's board of directors, composed of the founders and project volunteer coordinators, determined that the project would be successful on campuses across the country. Plans are being developed to assist in starting projects at Universities across Canada and already many Canadian universities have started projects of their own.

Conduct Becoming has been the focus of local regional and national media coverage including CBC Television's The National, Global Television, EastLink Television, CBC Radio, Maclean's and newspapers across the country.

Conduct Becoming is a not-for-profit corporation established in 2000. The group is governed by a board of directors and is not controlled by, or represented by Mount Allison University, The Canadian Cancer Society or any other institution.
